Tips to sell a (clean) car:
As unfortunate as it may seem, people tend to base their first impressions on looks. We do this with almost everything, and cars are no exception. Someone is going to be immediately attracted to a nice looking vehicle, and they might be willing to overlook some flaws if it looks fantastic. If a car runs well, it might not even get noticed if its caked with dirt or mud. Cleaning a car before selling it is simply essential, and should entice a sale more quickly.
You have two basic options when you clean your car. You can take it to car wash, or you can do it yourself. Both of these have their pros and cons. Taking it to a car wash is going to be faster, and it will probably cost you between $10 and $20 depending on the services you want done. Some places will buff and wax your car too, making it look almost as good as the day you bought it. Of course, you can always opt to do the job yourself. With a couple sponges, a bucket of cleaning fluid, and a hose, you can get right to work. It takes most people between 30 minutes and an hour to clean their car, depending on how thorough they want to be.
The outside of the car is crucial, but having a clean inside is important too. Some people have a bad habit of leaving empty food wrappers and garbage on the floor of their car. This, or anything else on the floor, may be off-putting to someone taking your vehicle for a test drive. The easiest way to clean your car is to grab a garbage bag, and throw all the junk into it. Then take a portable vacuum cleaner and get all the dirt and crumbs off the floor and out of the crevices between the seats. If you do not have a vacuum cleaner, many gas stations have coin operated ones you can use.
After you are done, try and appraise your car with an unbiased eye. Sure, it might look good to you, but the appearance needs to impress someone who has never seen it before. Look it over inside and out. Double check for blemishes, dirt, dust, mud, or anything else that might be detracting. It can also be a good idea to remove any bumper stickers you have. Some people might find them offensive, and others might think they are tacky or crude. Cleaning a car before selling it does not take too much time, and drastically improves the odds of someone wanting to buy it.
